Through a nurturing and child-centred approach to learning pupils are supported to make progress with their social, emotional, and academic development. They will also have access to specific interventions tailored to meet individual need.
We endeavour to offer the children a wider learning experience throughout the day, the children are supported in developing their social skills and are taught self-regulation strategies to develop their own emotional responses to situations as they arise.
Our curriculum is broken down into 3 areas of priority – ‘Developers, Drivers and Enhancers’ following the National Curriculum.
The ‘Developer areas’ of learning are crucial to the child’s overall development and enable them to access all other areas of learning. They include: Social, Emotional and Mental Health, Communication, Speech and Language and Physical Health and Well-being. Children need to have a positive wellbeing, robust physical health, and the ability to understand and express themselves to learn.
The ‘Driver areas’ are the core subjects which provide children with the specific academic skills required to access all areas of the curriculum and function as independent individuals in society, they are planned to the National Curriculum. They include Reading, Writing and Maths and are taught daily.
The ‘Enhancer areas’ are all other subjects of the National Curriculum providing opportunities for cross curricular links to allow for a broad and balanced learning experience.
