Art

At Higher Lane Primary School, we believe that art helps children to imagine, explore, and create — and that every child belongs in our creative community. Using the Grammarsaurus curriculum, we teach art in a way that builds confidence, encourages curiosity and ensures that every child can achieve and make progress.

Children learn to experiment, reflect on their work, and develop their own unique style, helping them to thrive as creative individuals.
Our Art lessons are taught through three disciplines:

Monochromatic (Drawing): Children practise using pencils to sketch, shade, and add texture. They learn how to observe carefully and record what they see, developing their skills step by step and celebrating their progress.

Chromatic (Painting): Pupils explore colour mixing, brush techniques, and composition. They learn how colours can show feelings and create mood, empowering them to express themselves and take pride in their achievements.

Sculpture: Children build and shape using clay. This discipline involves working in three dimensions, exploring how form, texture, space, and purpose work in sculptural art.
Through collaboration and creativity, children feel a sense of belonging as they share and celebrate their work.

Throughout their learning, children are introduced to famous artists and designers. They are encouraged to evaluate, improve and celebrate their creations, building a lifelong love of art and a sense of accomplishment.
