History
At Higher Lane, our History curriculum is built around four key themes. These include Society and Community, Exploration and Invasion, Power and Conflict and Invasion. These themes are explored through six key areas: Chronology, Evidence and Interpretation, Cause and Consequence, Change and Continuity, Similarity and difference and Historical Significance..
At Higher Lane, we are proud to offer innovative teaching approaches such as dual coding—combining visuals and verbal explanations—to help students make meaningful connections and retain key historical concepts. Oracy is central to our teaching, with regular opportunities for students to discuss, debate, and present their ideas confidently. We also embrace technology, encouraging students to showcase their learning creatively on platforms like Showbie. Enriching trips and visits further support learning by offering immersive, hands-on experiences that bring the past to life.
