PE
At Higher Lane, we want every child to enjoy being active and to feel proud of their achievements in sport. Our aim is to give children regular chances to practise and play as part of a team so that they can grow in confidence, develop their skills, and perform well when representing the school in fixtures. Most importantly, we want every child to discover the fun and friendship that comes from being part of sport, helping them to achieve, belong and thrive in all they do.
Our PE curriculum is brought to life each week by specialist sports coaches from EdStart, who deliver engaging PE lessons to every class. EdStart also run our before and after-school clubs, giving children extra opportunities to stay active and enjoy sport in a fun and supportive environment.
Alongside this, we provide a wide variety of opportunities to keep children active and engaged throughout the year, including:
• Lunchtime sport sessions.
• Multi-skills morning club.
• Fixtures in football, netball and chess through the Bury Games Network.
• Fun competitions such as nerf challenges, athletics and our annual Sports Day.
• Year 4 swimming lessons.
This rich programme means that every child can find something they enjoy, while those who want to represent the school have regular practice and plenty of chances to shine.
Children at our school leave PE sessions feeling motivated, energised and proud of what they can achieve. They learn the importance of teamwork, resilience and fair play, as well as the joy of celebrating each other’s successes. Whether it’s improving their personal best, trying a new sport, or competing in a fixture, our children develop confidence and life-long positive attitudes towards health and physical activity.
Through sport, our children learn what it truly means to achieve, belong and thrive, both on the field and beyond it.
